Iberian Publishing Company's On-Line Catalog: Independent City of South Boston
Located in Halifax County. Originally, the town was located on the south side of the Dan River and known as Boyd's Ferry, but a flood destroyed the community shortly after its founding in 1796. the survivors moved to the higher ground on the north side of the river and reestablished their community as South Boston. It was incorporated as a town in 1884 and made a city by court order in 1960.
