Located in Wise County. The earliest settlement on the town's present site was called Prince's Flats and was named for William Prince, who settled in the area about 1787. Shortly thereafter, in 1894, Norton became an incorporated town and then in 1954 it was elevated to city status. See Wise County for Norton's records.
