Map of Va: Wise CountyWise County was formed in 1856 from part of Lee, Scott, and Russell counties. The county was named for Henry Alexander Wise, governor of Virginia from 1856 to 1860. In 1880 a portion of Wise in turn was taken to create Dickenson.
