Located in Prince William County, the small village was established in 1852 at the junction of the Manassas Gap Railroad and the Orange and Alexandria Railroad. The comunity played a pivotal role in two major Civil War conflicts which bore its name. Manassas was not incorporated as a town until 1874, and it became a city in 1975.
