Map of Va: Wetzel CountyWetzel County was created in 1846 from the northern portion of Tyler County. The new county was named in honor of Lewis Wetzel, who often was called the Daniel Boone of northwestern Virginia. In 1868 two farms were transferred from Wetzel to Tyler County.
