Independent City of Lexington
Located in Rockbridge County. The town was first established in 1778 and became the county seat for the newly-created Rockbridge County. Nearly a century passed until the community was formally incorporated as a town. In 1965 Lexington joined the ranks of Virginia's cities by a court order.
