Iberian Publishing Company's On-Line Catalog: Independent City of Buena Vista
In Rockbridge County. The first community was founded on the site of the abandoned Buena Vista iron furnace. The current supposition is that the community was named for the Mexican town where General Zachary Scott won an important battle in the Mexican War. Buena Vista was incorporated as a town in 1890 and as a city in 1892.
Buena Vista's court records begin in 1892. For earlier records, see Rockbridge County.
